Prof. D. Suneel is a distinguished academician and seasoned Mechanical Engineering Professor, currently serving as Vice-Principal & Dean (First Year) at Narasaraopeta Engineering College (Autonomous), Narasaraopet. He received his Doctoral Degree from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, in 2010 and brings with him more than 23 years of rich experience in teaching, academic leadership, and engineering education.
As Dean (First Year), Prof. Suneel plays a pivotal role in building strong academic foundations for newly admitted students, overseeing Basic Science & Humanities programs, mentoring first-year learners, and ensuring a smooth transition from intermediate education to professional engineering studies. He is deeply committed to fostering discipline, academic excellence, professional ethics, and holistic development during this crucial formative phase.
His teaching and research interests include Metal Cutting and Machine Tool Design, Engineering Mechanics, Metal Matrix Nanocomposites, Nanofluids, Nano-coatings, Polymer Nanocomposites, and Nanomaterials. He has published over 30 research papers in reputed national and international journals and conferences, authored two books published by Lambert Academic Publishing (Germany), published 20 design patents, and filed two innovation patents with the Government of India. He has also guided ten B.Tech and four M.Tech projects.
Prof. Suneel was ratified as Professor in 2015 by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada. He joined Narasaraopeta Engineering College in April 2012 as Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department and later served as Dean–Academics, contributing significantly to academic reforms, curriculum enrichment, and institutional development. He represented the department before NBA, NAAC, and Autonomous committees and played a key role in achieving major accreditations. He also served as In-Charge Principal during Jan–Mar 2018 and Apr–Jun 2024.
Prior to joining NEC, he served in academic positions at GITAM University and KL University. He was instrumental in securing Research Recognition Center status for the Mechanical Engineering Department from JNTUK.
He has attended 12 national-level workshops and training programs (exceeding 60 days in duration) at premier institutions including Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. He is a Life Member of the Institution of Engineers (India), ISTE, and MRSI (Materials Research Society of India). He holds professional certifications from Dale Carnegie & Associates on High Impact Presentation Skills and from Wipro Mission 10X on Effective Teaching Methodologies.
Prof. Suneel has delivered expert lectures on Nanomaterials, co-coordinated a National Workshop on Characterization and Synthesis of Nanomaterials, convened an International Conference (NECICRTME-2K15), and successfully executed an AICTE-funded project worth ₹18.90 lakhs for modernization of laboratories. He is also the Co-Investigator for the AICTE-sponsored IDEA Lab being established at Narasaraopeta Engineering College with a sanctioned project cost of ₹90,00,000, aimed at promoting innovation, hands-on learning, and interdisciplinary student projects.
To stay aligned with emerging technologies and modern pedagogy, he has completed 50 certifications through Coursera and NPTEL.
Known for his student-centric leadership, Prof. Suneel believes in recognizing individual potential and addressing diverse learning needs. As Dean (First Year), he focuses on academic mentoring, value-based education, student welfare, bridge courses, and faculty coordination, laying a strong platform for students’ success throughout their engineering journey. His vision is to nurture confident, disciplined, and technically competent graduates while guiding faculty toward achieving the institution’s goal of becoming a premier technical hub.
